Whilst road safety and road traffic collisions have not featured in previous community safety strategies the number of, especially young people, killed or seriously injured in road incidents over the past few years has led the CDRP to increase activity in this area. In 2006 two ‘SID’ Speed Indicator Devices were purchased and are now in frequent use staffed by ‘Community Speedwatch’ volunteers. The District has supported the ‘Safe Drive – Stay Alive" theatre productions for young people and has also been running a safer driving course for young drivers whose behaviour on the road has been identified as anti social. A new sub-group will now be formed under the JAG (Joint Action Group) to liaise with other CDRP’s across West Sussex and co-ordinate activity in this area. This priority's principal partners are the Sussex Police and the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership
